Malaysia's National Day: Merdeka!
National Day(Independence Day) of Malaysia is celebrated on 31st August every year in honor of commemorating for Malaya to gain the official independence from the British Empire on 31st August 1957. Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister of Malaysia declared Malayan Independence with seven shouts of "Merdeka" at the Royal Selangor Club Padang, also now known as Dataran Merdeka/ Independence Square in Kuala Lumpur. After that, the first celebration ceremony was moved to the Merdeka Stadium with the witness of more than 20,000 people included ruler of the Malay States, foreign dignitaries, members of federal cabinet and citizens.

Malaysia's National Day is celebrated as a national public holiday and it is one of the popular festival celebration among Malaysian. The whole Malaysia is decorated with lights and the Malaysia flag, also known as Jalur Gemilang is also used for the decoration of the public squares, market places, all the government buildings and so on. The people of multiracial with different cultures and religions proudly come together and celebrate this special occasion in harmonious way.
We will realize that how lucky we are living in Malaysia with peace, harmony and free of the serious nature disaster (Tornadoes, volcanic eruption, earthquakes or droughts). We should appreciate living here in Malaysia and feel proud of being Malaysian.
