Malaysia Day: 1 Malaysia!

Some of you may confuse between Malaysia Independence Day with Malaysia Day. In fact, The National Day(Independence Day) of Malaysia is celebrated on 31st August every year in honor of commemorating for Malaya to gain the official independence from the British Empire on 31st August 1957. On the other hand, Malaysia Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the establishment of the federation of Malaysia with the inclusion of Sabah and Sarawak in year 1963 ( Singapore was part of Malaysia but it quitted in year 1965 to become an independent country). Both of the dates  are also very essential for Malaysia from the historical perspective and there are historical origins for a country to have 2 National Day.

Since year 2010, 16 September has been declared as federal  public holiday in our national calendar to be officially celebrated as Malaysia Day which is based on "1 Government, 1 Policy and 1 Malaysia" concept.  It is very important for Malaysian to identify the strength and weakness in order to reflect on the effort and sacrifices in nation-building. As we know, we are going to face tonnes of challenges in this new millennium and certainly we have to capitalize on our strengths and overcome the weaknesses.

Nation-building is never been an easy task. It is a long process and challenges which required good and strong leadership and the hard work between Malaysian. Celebration of Malaysia Day enable Malaysian to rekindle the patriotic spirit. Malaysian who live in  a multiracial nation should start to accept each others as Malaysian and are able to live, learn, work together and build a strong relationship in the spirit of 1 Malaysia.

" Unity is Strength".
