Do you even think of
how the blind and deaf live with their visual and hearing disabilities? In
order for us to understand that, of course we must put ourselves in the same
situation. I took up the challenge to participate in "Walk For Sight
& Sound 2012" Blinded-folded Charity Walk" to experience it. This event was a 3.8km walk
which flagged off at Lebuh Pantai, went through Jalan Padang Kota Lama and
Jalan Farquhar and ended at Lebuh Pantai. All the participants had the
opportunity to experience the difficulties that the visually impaired has to
face daily by wearing the blindfold.
The event was
jointly organised by Lion Clubs of Georgetown Perdana, Penang Municipal
Council, Penang State Sports Council and fully supported by the Penang State
Government. It was aimed to
create the awareness on the disabilities on the visual and hearing impaired to
the public, especially to the youth and students.
The funds is raised for St. Nicholas's Home, Penang Deaf Malaysia
Glaucoma and Penang Association Society to purchase the aids and equipment yet
provide the education and training facilities to the visually and hearing
impaired community. The funds is also able to assist the needy to undergo
cataract operations.

Eyesight is precious gift that given to many of us who are lucky from birth, but many others are not. Sight helps us to navigate the wonderful world around us. So we should appreciate our value eyesight and take a better care of it.

Beverly
